The Inka trail is considered one of the most famous treks of the world, for along its route we may appreciate the ancestral cultural legacy of the Inkas -enigmatic pre-Hispanic culture-, as well as enjoying a great diversity of species of wild flora and fauna. All that takes place along this wonderful path, leading to the spectacular and beautiful sanctuary of Machupicchu that evokes the magnificence and importance of the Inka culture. That is why thousands of people wish to visit Machupicchu through the Inka trail, but unfortunately the capacity of the trail is limited, for reservations with much time in advance (at least six months) are required.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco (Km. 82) - Llullucha Pampa
We initiate our trip early in the morning. After picking you up from your respective hotel, we will continue towards the Sacred Valley of the Inkas, passing through Urubamba and Ollantaytambo important cities of the valley continuing till the Km. 82 of the train-way to Machu Picchu. Right there starts the trek. After five hours we will arrive to our campsite a place called Llulluchapampa, at 3600 m.a.s.l. There may be seen nice views from the mountain range called Huayanaes.
Day 2: Llullucha Pampa - Huarmiwañusca - Phuyupatamarka
That day we will continue our route towards the highest mountain passage located next to our campsite. It will take us two hours to arrive to such opening: Warmiwañusca meaning, form native language, "where the woman dyes", at 4,200 m.a.s.l. Then we will descend immediately till Pacaymayo. There starts the true Inka trail. Continuing the trek, we will then ascend to Runcuracay -another archeological Inka complex in the shape of towers dominating the valley. The second day we will also continue the way towards Phuyupatamarka, meaning "upon the clouds".
Day 3: Phuyupatamarka - Wiñayhuayna
After visiting that Inka complex we will proceed to descend, for approximately tour hours, to Wiñayhuayna, another marvelous archeological complex where we shall spend the night.
Day 4: Wiñayhuayna - Machupicchu - Cusco
Very early in the morning we will continue the trek towards Machupicchu arriving to the Inti Punku, meaning "sun-gate", in two hours. From there we will have an impressive view from the majesty of Machupicchu. After one more hour we would have arrived to the complex, where we will be guided across the main temples of the sanctuary. In the afternoon we will descend to Aguas Calientes, taking there the return-train to Cusco.
