Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Isla de los Monos

We will arrive to the capital of Peruvian bio-diversity. Our tour starts routing the city in a bus. Then, at the port-captaincy, we will board the boat through the river Madre de Dios. Along the trip we will submerge ourselves into a natural environment, allowing us to observe the ronsoco, alligators, turtles, herons, cormoranes, and other species of animals. Arriving to Ecoamazonia Lodge we will take an exquisite drink of welcoming, installing ourselves in bungalows in order to take lunch thereafter. In the afternoon, with our specialized guide, we will visit the first and unique place at the heart of Madre de Dios: Isla de los Monos (Isle of Monkeys), only five minutes away from the Lodge. During the way to the island we may see the exuberant sightseeing of flora and fauna, sheltering in its interior, in their natural habitat, a variety of species of monkeys, such as maquisapas, capuchinos, small leoncitos (tiny lions), frailecitos (small monks), cotos, besides other species such as the coati, lazy bear, among others, and a great variety of birds. We will complement the adventure through the island, enjoying the sunset -one of the most impressive characteristics of the jungle. Then we will return to the Lodge.

Day 2: Cocha Perdida

After having breakfast, we will initiate another adventure through virgin jungle. Following internal paths, we will arrive to Cocha Perdida -a refuge and internal feeding center for many animals such as black alligators, river turtles, giant otters, and a great variety of birds. Then we will arrive to the outstanding Amazonic viewpoint, built on top of the most immense tree: the Shihuahuaco. There the magic of the jungle may be appreciated. You may also take a canoe-ride around the lake. Then we will return to the Lodge to have lunch, and the afternoon will be free-spent.

Day 3: Palma Real

After having breakfast we will sail the river Madre de Dios for approximately two hours. On its bank it will be possible to observe the diverse flora and fauna of the area, and the gold-seekers. Later on, we will visit the closest indigenous community located at Palma Real -a semi-civilized ethnic group still conserving a good amount of their customs, myths and rites. This native human settlement of Hoorays is a space fulfilled with secrets, wisdom and a harmonious interaction between men and the jungle, as integral part of a unity they called universe. The guide shall inform us of their lives... their time is ruled by the sun, the moon, the water. There, men, plants, animals and rivers are integrated into a compact world. Therefore, everything has a message. At the end of the visit we may purchase their handicrafts manufactured by themselves. And we may even take part of their chants and traditional dances. Then we will have lunch and there-on we will pass through the ravine of Palma Real, a beautiful sightseeing of a natural enchantment and attraction.

Day 4: Return to Cusco

After having breakfast we will board the boat back to Puerto Maldonado, where we will take the return-flight to Cusco.
